Two tall upper wings and two smaller lower wings angle around the body, forming an open three-dimensional shape with room for a tealight. From the front the butterfly is largely symmetrical; from an angle, the wings can be seen on either side of the holder, allowing the glass to glow from within.

Light like sunshine filtering through leaves
The tealight sits between the wings and remains visible while burning. The strongest glow appears immediately above and beside the flame, where the lighter panels let through more light. Mid-green glass turns fresh leaf green and grass green; the palest pieces glow yellow-green to almost lime, while the outer edges remain deep forest green. The flame’s golden centre mingles with the green glass, creating an effect reminiscent of sunlight through foliage.

The wings comprise approximately 32 hand-cut pieces of genuine glass, joined using the Tiffany technique. Broad solder lines provide both the structure and the wing pattern.
